The altar will lower back down and the candles remain lit. Make sure you break him when you really need him - like having enough money to buy out the Showroom.

Thank goodness I got the showroom trophy via different means, this little guy will remain safe forever!

My insane method for the curious (quite late game mechanical spoilers): massively boosted allowance via the boiler/laundry, freezing my previous day's money with the freezer, doubling my money with an upgraded bunk beds, spending 48 stars on rerolls and a very lucky last minute vault
