You can also pull off what you're trying to pull off with less than 7 mechanical rooms...

I pulled off what you're trying to do multiple times with the electromagnet.
Just a tip, but you don't literally need all 8 Mechanarium doors to get the Sanctum key. You only need the Mechanarium to have all spots that aren't already blocked off by walls to have doors. So if for instance you put the Mechanarium in a dead end spot where three of the four walls are already blocked off and can't have doors then you only need to have 4 Gears in your house to fill all the remaining spots, not 7, and you'll get the key.
