Beginners Guide - Tips and Tricks
I love this game so far, obviously its not perfect but they've done a great job so far. It is actually quite difficult so here's some tips and tricks to help you get started

1) SYMBOLS ARE RETAINED PERMANENTLY IF YOU UPGRADE A UNIT TO 2 STARS - i cannot stress this enough, this mechanic is what makes the game special. your job will be to create as many different two star units throughout to gather as many synergies as you can. While the units themselves do vary in strength, the synergies are necessary for you to advance. You probably cannot clear with 6 of the best units with no other synergies.

2) pathing - try to use your mana wisely - visiting empty rooms are super important as they often can give you units or treasure - killing all the minion rooms is important as well as it will generate gold for you to invest into your team - you've done a good job when you've explored the entire floor and didnt run out of mana

3) rainbow crystals - these are used at the alchemist only, they help you get gems - try to fill up your gem slots and then save them until you see silver star gems in the shop. then replace your old gems, then save again till you see gold star gems in the shop and repeat.

4) Gems - AoE bow is really useful for minion fights, sunder and curse bow are great for bosses - shield, heal, frost, shroud are all really useful for dmg mitigation and using them when you face a "DANGER" attack. try to keep some mana replenishment on hand cause you never know when you'll get stuck, running out of mana can be quite devastating

5) reserves - 25% chance to lose mana isnt too bad, be careful at this stage. getting to 50% you'll bleed mana so fast so really try to manage your inventory - this takes practice so theres not a ton of guidance i can provide ill try below

6) synergies - GREEN IS KING - green allows you to raise your health of all your units based on every other synergy you have - which really encourages tyou to upgrade nearly every unit to two star and sell them if you dont need them. other key synergies - regen, barrier, frost are all hyper useful as you need a form of sustain to go far in this game

7) units - bronze < silver < gold - this is generally true, early game you can focus on bronze and getting some early upgrades to survive - eventually you'll want to focus on silver and then gold. the only non-gold units you want are healers at the end game which healers are pretty bad end game anyway

8) healing - you can only heal at the green crystal once per floor and it requires mana based on dmg - it only heals PARTY members, not reserves. try and time it out so you can heal before a boss fight if you can/need to

Early Game - Gems are really impactful, early AoE bow can make your life a lot easier. grabbing offensive ones will really help in the early stages - first few floors are usually so weak you can kill with gems alone - focus on opening as many party slots as possible

mid game - finish grabbing 6 slots - upgrade a few units, try to start aiming for useful synergies - upgrade to silver gems when you see them in the alchemist shop - transition to silver units - even un-upgraded are better as long as you have green buff for health

late game - focus on upgrading gold units, maximize key synergies for physical or magic depending on your team. grab as much dmg mitigation gems as possible if you need, or go for stacking effects like burn and shock

overall, a lot of the game is smart pathing, and inventory management trying to luck your way into upgrading as many units as you can without wasting all your mana and dying. there's definitely some luck to it, but you can make it to Witch without much trouble, after it does get tough and will require great management and understanding.

It usually depends on what your comp is on whether you need healing units or not. Plum x2, Shield x4 is often not enough to sustain a team, regardless of green or not. It's arguable whether Plum x3 is enough or not. Usually, you're talking about stuff like Plum x3 + White x2 for sustain or a lot of damage if just at Plum x3, and that's not always guaranteed.

You can argue you can survive burst with Green, but if you don't have enough sustain to heal your HP back, then Green really didn't help you that much unless that extra time Green bought you is the difference between killing and not killing.
