So, there is no such thing as "god", only entities and deities in a universe the human mind cannot comprehend.
Yes, sheepy is a stuffed sheep that is given life to and while we walk through caves and an abandoned facility, there's a chance all of that exists but the events that take and took place there were most likely experiences only chosen few were "allowed" to experience. Anyone else would experience what the cosmic universe usually makes you experience: Torment and insanity. Hence the abandoning and the (for the human mind comprehensible) corpses and dangers.
Why sheepy was given life to? The purpose of things happening in the cosmic universe is often unclear while at the same time bizarre and "unearthly". At this point I -assume- that, since there is dark energy, sheepy's purpose is to get rid of the dark energy.
Why this is likely? Well, the dark energy seems to be able to also bring things to life. And while for us, humans, it looks like a battle between good and evil, it could also be a case where the cosmic universe takes the form of a sheep to encounter a form of cosmic universe energy, that tried to separate itself from the cosmic universe and do its own thing, kind of being tasked with bringing "lost energy" back home.
In addition to that it's also likely that patches plays a signifcant role as sheepy saves him and brings him along through the portal. Maybe sheepy had to retrieve patches all along instead of dealing with the dark energy. Or maybe both. However, one thing is for sure: The moment sheepy returns his powers (which actually all act as keys it seems) the dark energy is gone too, wherever to.
The ending means nothing more than sheepys journey is over. He did what he had to do and as everything went according to plan, he and the energy contained within can go back home, wherever that is, whatever that means.
Aside all that I noticed 2 lovely details:
• Cthulhu is known for slumbering somewhere deep. Sheepy too, goes down deeper and deeper, gathering unearthly powers, before being able to arise again.
• The person leaving all the notes and coming to an end on the platform beyond the stars, is 100% no human person. "He" mentioned it in his last note that he wasn't the first and won't be the last to walk this journey. But to get up there he would have needed the cosmic powers while no human mind or body could handle this kind of energy by the slightest.
