Why is Ray Tracing locked?
I have an RTX 2080 ti, a ray traced enabled GPU and yet for some reason the options in the game menu say that Ray Tracing is not supported. Why?

EDIT: Because I loaded it through the desktop shortcut it didn't give me the to load DX12. That was the problem. Now a new one - HDR won't turn back on while in DX12. :)

EDIT 2: So to play with ray tracing you need to launch the game through steam by opening steam and clicking 'play' in the steam library. I was opening the game through the desktop icon, which loads the game by default in DirectX11, not 12. Also if you want HDR to be enabled with DirectX12, you must turn HDR on in the windows settings. Some games do this unfortunately while others don't.

Choose DirectX 12 when launching the game.

Gotcha, thanks man! Now a new problem - can't have HDR enabled at the same time :steamhappy:

It is the 1st choice to make that affects the outcome of the game!

HDR or Ray Tracing... Not an easy choice, but what will be your destiny?

I found a secret third option where you can have both xD

I didn't have HDR enabled in my display settings for windows, enabling it there fixed it for me. Some games do that for some reason.

Thanks. I too was wondering why I was being told my 3080ti didn't support raytracing. I wasn't given an option to pick DX11 or DX12 because I just clicked on the shortcut Steam placed on my desktop -- which apparently defaulted to DX11

I'm not given an option to choose DX11 or DX12 even though I have a ray tracing enabled GPU 3060. Any clues on how i can get it enabled?

All you have to do is add the game executable (.exe) to your Steam library and then write the command "-dx12" on launch options of the game, then start the game from there and it will be running on DX12.

Why the devs dont put shortcut for Dx12 on desktop by default and the people who need Dx11 can launch by clicking play or if possible, put 2 shortcut of the game on desktop so users can choose what they need?

or start it from inside the the steam library window - if you start it by right-clicking steam in the taskbar and launching the game, it will just start with DX11.
This is seriously stupid and should either trigger the choice anytime, or keep the choice of the previous launch.

Agreed, I almost never use Steam to launch my games, preferring to use the desktop icon. It should either give us the choice on first launch, or the desktop icon should default to DX12.

To enable ray tracing you need to load the game in DirectX12 by launching the game through the steam library, the desktop icon will launch the game in DirectX11 by default.
