Finisher Skills and branching
Can you branch skills when using them as finishers like horizontal square?

If by finisher you mean at the end of the attack mash, it depends on the ability. I just went in and tested and it looks like Horizontal Square does an auto-branch when it's used after the attack mash. This doesn't go for every ability, though. Easiest way is I would just test out different abilities and go from there. My scythe's branch ability Bloody Onslaught or whatever doesn't do an auto-branch, nor can it even be branched while using it like that. I can only branch it when using the SP form. But yeah, I'd just test around what you would like to try and use and see, that's how I figured out my best set of abilities with my scythe and can max out at around a little over 1mil dmg in a 60 second burst on the first spider boss on normal difficulty.

Horizontal Square does indeed fully branch when using it as a finisher, however that's just because of how that branching skill works, Double Circular branching into Shine Circular does not though. So it varies from skill to skill.

Thats bad. I just reinstalled lycoris to play last DLC and remembered that the 1 finisher you can set there can be branched by buttom mashing.

How do you branch into Shine Circular?

can someone explain how to branch skills? i've been trying to figure this out since launch.
For example for the DW skill Inferno Raid, what are you supposed to press and when? All these skill tooltips just say to input but never says what you input

Each skill has a connection priority. When the skill has a priority of 3, that means is kind of a "finisher" and u cannot combo after it. Correct me if im wrong tho

I don't understand the priority system at all, I have a dual wield skill that's listed "spc priority" or something, don't get that either. If anyone figures this stuff out please tag me

Branching skills have a very very very quick extra flash (NOT the Skill Connect flash) somewhere in the move which is approx 2 frames long. If you nail an input during this time, you do another step in the move, max of 3 in the example of Inferno Raid and Shine Circular.

The timing here is far more lenient and forgiving compared to SAO AL, where it was literally Just Frame input. Shine Circular can largely be mashed out but still needs a bit of timing to nail the FIRST input, you can mash after that.

Horizontal Square, oddly, has no timing requirement and is just 4 inputs.

Inferno Raid is easier but still needs timing to nail all 3, grr.
