XEN Turrets
Just read and interesting discussion about the uses and usefulness of these turrets. So was wondering what everyone actually DOES use these for to see if some options are better than others.
Currently I have a few bases that use them. None have more than 9 XTurrets due to the % decrease in mat storage. I usually have my charging turrets set to a great Gale Xen that will wipe smaller units in a long line just like ma gun. I have my Heavy XTurrets set to a Spray Cannon Xen that will one shot med enemies and ALMOST one shots heavies.
I have heard of people using them with boost xens or utility xens but i havent tried that yet. Anyone have a good setup that they use?

My bases got wiped out in one of the updates in the past few months. I did the shotgun for close, gale, and i had some red heavy hitting one i used for heavy damage to the bigger units is what i ended up with. Honestly I just couldnt get into them. i ran test where i setup a base and just had a heavy xen turret and i would run a woodland recovery day. then i could compare it to a normal 30cal turret. every setups i ran did worst or just about the same as the 30cal turret. I think one of my favorite was light with ammo saving for 2 or 3 of the slots and material gains for the rest. never could get it to have unlimited ammo or pay for itself but that was something i liked to play around with. I played around with about every combo i could think of and i just couldnt get any setup that was worth the work of it over a twin 30 cal turret. Real estate is limited on a base so a person needs to have the best turret for that spot. I miss my supreme auto-loader and having the whole base get ammo just from it.

Anyways i would also love to know what a good build for a xen turret is.

I mostly use light or medium xen turrets to create materials for ammo production using:

Morph-Light Boost-4xdeconstruct2, 2xthrifty.

in my testing a single turret running this build will generate a bonus 147 or so materials compared to Morph-Light only, which means it's generating a free 47 materials after paying for itself although it has to be shooting mechanical enemies to do this.

Some other options I've used are
Morph-Radiance Boost 6xthrifty to increase the damage everything takes by I believe 15%
Morph-Re-configure Boost 6xadvanced to take control of tanks and use them as shields/extra damage.

Re-configure gives the target taunt which causes enemies around the target to attack the target which when happens, the target also stops to target what is targetting it essentially.

I have been wondering if that would work for the longest time. I keep seeing it and thinking this would be a great way to get units to turn on each other then i thought no way they would allow that and its like reload or heal and has to target friendly. Its good to know that it does work on enemy units. Then again by the time i get a Xen turret the tanks only last for about 1 second on city ruin. really its a problem i dont even have time to take shots at them. So i dont know how useful it would be for me once i have the ability to use it.

Anyways thank you for informing me on this. RIght now i am working on a Xen that does 10,000 damage over an area and strikes 4 times and hits near by enemies. its only costs only 25 ammo. I need to find chain so i can compare the damage to each other to see if that is just standard damage or not.

One thing I did just for fun, was take a Light Xen Turret, and slapped a Light Xen that has a Damage Entangle (didn't know what else to put in an empty slot I had left after a Thrifty, Cleansweep and Disassemble). And they are in groups of 2 on the sides, so a lot of bullets going out.
Which makes me wonder, what would happen if I piled up multiple Damage/Elemental Entangles onto it... death by a thousand paper cuts?

I basically strait up copied my Heavy based 'sniper build' to a pair of Medium Xen turrets on the front corners of my base, stuff for doing extra damage to full/near full health enemies, medium priority for Medium and Large targets with Apostles at High priority.

Also toying with the idea of Grenade with Damage/Elemental Entangles and the one that pulls in nearby enemies if it hits an enemy, maybe also a radius increase, and slapping that on the Light Xen turrets, tweak the range to stagger their fire. (because Crowd con-Troll-ing is fun...)

When I get a Charged Xen Turret finally, I got Gravity and Gale I will likely test with it, 2 Advanced, something to increase radius, and Damage/Elemental Entangle in the rest of the slots (only got Oranges so far, I have yet to find a Red gun).

gravity i couldnt get any real damage out of but i loved gale. This is a XEN that allows you to pull units into the gale. I need to do more testing but seems powerful. There is another one thats red and puts fence post in the ground and shocks the enemy. Cant remember the name but i got some good damage out of them.

I also love Gale, got Intensify II, 2x Elemental Entangles and Damage Entangle on mine, plus Pinprick (might replace with Advanced). Fun times with Electro ammo.
I tried it with the one 'pull' booster, had mixed results. Seemed to only 'trigger' the 'pull' on the initial hit.

The fun part about Gravity, is that it 'hits' enemies twice per second, and those 'hits', even though they only 'pull' and do no damage themselves, will trigger stuff like the Entangle(ment)s. I also found out when messing around during my testing of different Gravity builds, that it will even trigger Apex Predator and possibly also Elemental Hunter, without any other damage causing effects. As in it will trigger Apex Predator on 'every' tick. Even with just Apex Preadtor I, that's basically 8 Piercing per second, until the enemy is below 80% HP. Armor shredder, anyone?

A build I am possibly going to toy around with (even if just a 'test run' in Infinity Siege), is Gravity with Advanced, Light Strike, Elemental Entangle, Damage Entangle, Apex Predator I.

Gravity is also useful, when used alongside Warp, to grab items in out of the way places, like that fell through a floor, or under an obstacle, so you can 'pull' items to where Warp can 'grab' them.

When I finally get the Charged Xen Turret, I'll have to figure out what kind of build to try on it first (maybe 2x Damage Entangle, Entanglement State, Light Strike, Apex Predator, maybe set priorities for Apostle/bosses high priority, large size at medium priority, medium size at low priority)

been wondering about that. what is the difference between large and charged XEN turrets? if i remember correctly they cost the same and do the same DPS.

Large costs 8% materials and has a range of 10000, charging costs 10% and has a range of 12000 and has the ability to be manually Targeted and fired.

Charging has better range than Heavy? Curious.
Because with needing Cruiser Cannon Barrels, I got the impression the Heavy Xen Turret would be a long range heavy hitter.
More so with it stating it gets an increased initial projectile velocity.

A related question. Do they use Ammo Boxes, or Shells?
For the Heavy Xen Turret, anyways, it seems like it would need Shells, considering you need Cruiser Cannon Barrels to make it.

All types of Xen turrets use ammo boxes.

I have an Xen turret on each side with the Flare Xen. Which marks groups of enemies for turrets. Makes it really useful when you start getting heavy waves.

The flare Xen is radiance, and yes, it's good.
