Power And Materials
I'm having a hard time going to 3 places from the start point, due to the power cost to move locations, I feel I am missing something important like how to expand my power cap, or how to gain more power at each trip location. I normally need to scrap all Materials (cubes) into power just to make sure I can reach the quest location.

Build more batteries in your base to raise the cap.
Early on you will have to convert loot or materials to energy, if you want to clear the map.
This is just how it is.

Ah okay so I was missing something important! How do you turn items into loot? so far I only know of the cube icon currency to be turned into loot.

You can use your core tower or small generator to turn materials into power.
You should also have an energy converter in your base.
Blue circular hatch with a lightning bolt symbol on it.
If you interact with it you get a 6x6 inventory where you can put loot you don't need and it will be converted into power after a while.

Batteries, material crates and small generaters should be your main focus when it comes to building.
They increase your power and material cap, as well as your core output (size of the x-boost field and damage bonus for turrets amongst other things)

yeah the energy converter def helps until you can build up the base with more batteries/crates, also they made gear give you more power so if you get some green/blue stuff that is just gonna get sold back at base use it in the energy converter, also saves on recovery time(same if you use the drones to recover gold & the higher value items) its how i got past the city & snow ruins when i was getting into em drones also let you recover those patterns if your having issues getting past recovery day.

The energy converter is hilarious. Just go pick up some ore for some free mats and then dump them in the converter. 1 ore = 1 power.
