--> Actually, there are Round Makers available ...
Really? I have not seen them in the research tree or I must have missed this?
It out DPS'S everything else by a mile.
Deals fourtimes more damage per ammo box then the second best.
It can also intercept missiles.
Unfortunately, unless the developers add in a Hellfire w/ 30mm ACs instead of 20mm CWIS guns, the twin 30mms are kind of a trap, while they are more ammo efficient then the normal CWIS, you have the cost of Nanochips (Which are required for advanced auto-loaders, and the single 105mm that is needed for the dual 105mm)
Honestly, just mass CWIS as soon as you can (Just don't overdo your ammo supply capability) and set them into ranks (Have all or most of them to have Missile as high, and then pick one enemy type for each rank (So for anti-light turrets, Missile High, Small Medium, rest Normal) just make sure to cover your bases.
Though for example:
Twin 30mm: 1800 base DPS, 75s uptime if always firing, has an issue with overkill
CWIS: 2000 base DPS, 50s uptime if always firing, Needs 1 ammo maker per
Hellfire: 15000* base DPS, 25s uptime if always firing, Needs 2 ammo maker per, but is worth 4 CWIS, so downright the best option.
*Finally unlocked the Hellfire, could have sworn they had 8k, but they have 15k base
Good to know, I hadn't realized I unlocked anything for beating that mission.
Basically I learned the hard way after the Evac started, that when the outpost hits 0% you never sit still or you'll be crushed even if you still have time on the clock before the shuttle leaves.
Kinda annoying that it's even a thing since an evac timer should be an actual evac time instead of tricking you into thinking you need to hold out until it arrives, but that little hick up of losing my best guy distracted me from any rewards gained during that mission.
