How to combat City ruins
For the life of me, 51 hours in, solo, I find myself barely able to scrape by the story missions in the city ruins on recovery day. For whatever reason on the absolute minimum difficulty possible I keep dying. Ive got several CIWS and twin 30mm and even a knight but I still cant handle it. I think my problem is power, need more power for more mechs but I can't use a better source than the batteries. Does anyone have a solution/ tactic/ or otherwise that might help me?

Either farm up snow maps to build up your base more. Or do tactical city routes where you try and focus the bp nodes. Use this discussion to find the nodes that are important: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1566690/discussions/0/4356743320310620101/

If you can use drone to get the BPs out in case you have to go MIA. Also try to just go to one large node on your first few tours as the more loot you bring back the harder recovery day is going to be. The hardest part to overcome is basically with any amount of loot coming back you will have to fight 3 Apostles.

Another thing to note is you should also be boosting your core outpot as well either by building spikes on recovery day or by building tons of generators. More core output = more turret damage = less bullet they consume = more dead robots.

i was having same problems untill i realised i keep losing because my core were obliterated by railgun apostles, keep an eye for apostle spawn and nuke them before they can one shot your core

i mean i had no issue fighting railguns. i got nuked through a wall by a storm apostle. and because i died through a wall, my run auto ended.
Mechs seems not working well for me. So does the defenders.

I mostly rely on my turrets to fend off the swarms. You need more ammo production. More core power for better damage.

Set your twin cannon to only attack mid or larger target, and maximize its range, and let the ciws and MG deal with the smaller one.

Get a autoloader if you haven't. Place it to cover at least most of your front turret so you don't to load them one by one.

Get at least 4 ammo fabricator. And try to produce as much as you can carry in the last day. (I usually start the recovery day with like 20 ammo boxes in my bag)

A good sniper rifle to deal with the boss.

Put some armor at the side seems working fine for me. I have my tower wrapped by walls and blocks.

But it is annoying in deed, hope the devs can nerf it a bit soon.

First layer around my core bottom 2 levels is utility, then armoured walls etc, always make sure you have some storage seperate, had lost my first city because my sides were too weak and they ate through, but then destroyed the material storages so i couldnt even get anymore ammo... now I split it up alittle more

Protip i found out on accident, if you have armored walls with aegis panels and the spring barrier, you essentially can have a 5 layer armored wall per single utility tile.

Boosting tower output to optimize my CIWS and building hellfire turrets helped me a lot. Also the advanced ammo station with 3 regular ammo creates beneath each to permanently craft ammo and feed it helped a lot.

It's definitely a difficulty spike, feels like the devs expected us to run the full extraction timer on Snowy regularly before going into the City? I always pick and choose to keep the bar from hitting the boss spawn points...

Is was easy to do that. Remember you have to kill Kronos before getting the first City Quest...

Do research. Once you get enough and unlock enough blueprints in the previous areas, you get access to things like advanced storage and battery packs. The former can easily get you to upwards of 5,000 material storage AFTER gear.. and the latter gives 60 power + 10 core boost per pack for the same rough space as two batteries. Core boost is incredibly important and not to be overlooked as it directly affects your bases DPS and your defense rating. You want at least 400 if you can get it that high that early. If it's 400, you either need to focus more on loading your guns or outright handling things with auto loaders.

Utility walls and small generator spam in a dedicated engineering floor is a good option to get your core boost rating up along with giving you the space for mats and power. I can easily take on City 5 with only 4 Cwis able to fire forwards and just a few twin 30s. Exterior should be armor, interior walls (which you need anyway) should be utility walls. Even if you don't put anything on them, they still add core boost.

It’s better to ditch utility walls and use pillars in just a 3 pillar set up you can place 2 generators on the same side as they can share edges with each other. So that’s 4 generators in the same place as 1 utility wall with 1 generator. This also will leave space for a battery under the 2 generators. 6 pillars will actually have space for 10 generators and 4 batteries in the space of 2 utility walls with 2 generators.
