Make sure the game is completely closed, then go to AppData\Local\U01\Saved\SaveBackup\ and find the .bak that matches the time before you started a new save.
Move or copy it to AppData\Local\U01\Saved\SaveGames[Your SteamID#][Random #] and rename it "GameSaveData.sav" (You can move or copy and rename the old one)"
If you type %appdata% in your windows search bar it will bring up a folder. There is a window above the openable folders in which you can see a series of folders that lead up to the one you are in. Just hit backspace and you will enter the >AppData< folder.
Open the Local folder --> go to UO1 --> Saved --> SaveBackup --> should be a long number like this one= 76561198258614319 --> should be a long number again like this = D8FE1459454271E1F0B49D9AA11417C3
Here you can find all your backup saves. Check if there are any saves here and check what the date and time is on that file. If you do have a save that is the correct time and date since you think the last EXACT time was you played and everything was okay, click on that file and press CTRL + C.
Now click, in that bar of series of folders you are in, on >Saved< which will take you back to the Saved folder.
Here open SaveGames --> should be a long number like this one= 76561198258614319 --> should be a long number again like this = D8FE1459454271E1F0B49D9AA11417C3
Here you can find a file that is called GameSaveData.sav (your main save file)
Rename the file to GameSaveData2.sav
Press CRTL + V
Now rename this Backup save (which should be a really long number) to this exactly: GameSaveData.sav
It will will give you a prompt that the file format will change, just accept that.
Run the game and check.
(You now at least know where the save files of your game are and how to change them to your main save so check the save folders and see what you can find if that wasnt the game, if you do this exactly like I explaied you will restore your game, Otherwise try to search your pc and find the save files somewhere else if they are not where I explained, GL.)
Even Monster Hunter world let you have more than one character, so it's doable for this kind of game.
I was about to uninstall when i ran across your post on how to use backup saves.
YAY my character isn't dead anymore!
They r e a l l y need to fix this asap. Its something capable of making people quit the game on the spot.
In other words, any progress I try making from that save file gets deleted and I get rewound back to the point at which I loaded the save file.
Did I do something wrong somewhere?...
I think its fine though, my sincere thanks to the both of you for willing to help me resolve this issue. Me being me, I'll probably redo everything from the ground up. I know it was more than 100 hours worth of looting and shooting but its addicting enough to make it okay. Re-building the damn base every time I research a new set of A.T.C expansions is probably gonna be the biggest pain but eh, of well.
Its a really damn good game and I smell the potential for 1000+ hours'worth of game time, they just need to fix things like this really quick. It's definitely one of the points dragging it down at the moment.
It simply should not be this easy for someone to ruin their own experience. at least make me read an extra pop-up if you're going to literally overwrite the only save file I have...
