Looks like an asset flip
I've had this game on my wishlist ever since some Game Awards advertisements last year or two ago, the site was very barebones with screenshots of the trailer and "Soon" for a release

And now they've suddenly updated the game with a full pricetag, "not" EA and to have all this gameplay, management type building and your standard korean MMO engine characters

How is the game? I can work with jank but I don't know if I want to throw 20 bucks on a flipped game with uncertain update future

like all other said..
story, voice acting, optimization, UI all garbage/barely functional.
on early game the game is super sloooowwww, you need to "loot" resources and extract like tarkov, you need those resources to craft module to put on your outpost and make it stronger.. repeat..
for some it might be addicting to see your outpost grow, but it is really boring and a slog for others

As always Read a review(s) of the game before spending your money
People purchasing should be aware that, Campaign isnt completed

But game is pretty fun, imo worth it if you enjoy base building, tower defence

Absolutely fits my impression of the game so far. I like it alot and devs seem quite active in fixing things by patches ... we will see where it ends ....

It is REALLY grindy, AI is dumb as hell (they don't percieve you until about 50 meters, take about 2 seconds to respond, and have really bad pathfinding), voice acting is bad... there is a lot of jank here. Most annoying to me is the bad AI: with the looting/extraction-shooter aspect of the game (which you will be doing a lot), you just need better AI for that portion than you need for the TDS portion, but both modes use the same AI. This is counter-balanced by a superb tower defense extraction, especially fun and satisfying in the late game. It does loads of enemies with pretty good performance (but there is a lot of pop-in/spawn in front of you type of stuff). Also, if you are a loot goblin, that aspect is very well done, most polished mechanic in the game IMHO.

Honestly, it's a mixed bag. You'll have to determine if it's flaws match your tolerances, and if it's draws are worth it to you. Personally, I love the game, but I had to put a lot of time in. I'm probably more grind-tolerant than most. In terms of updates, the dev team so far have been on fire, really responsive and quick, usually fixing more than they break each iteration. I'd say abandonment (based on performance so far) is low-risk here.

At the end the Tower is the main character here, not Fae :steamhappy:

They should add container as playable character :cozyspaceengineersc:

One quick thing to note is that the game is being treated as an EA title, but doesn't have it on their page because some twit above the team making it said "No, I want a full release, not EA, despite it not being done!"

So yea, once again CEOs/shareholders/whoever it was once again swooping in to make things worse.

This game tries to do everything, and I admire the attempt, but given the amount of game-time looting encompasses,I'd like to see more AI refinement... or something to add more challenge (the chasers are a good example, not much AI required, but they add some spice). I'm a realist, AI is difficult and expensive!... but I believe a corner was cut here. The game is still fun, and totally agree that the tower defense portion is the most important, and for that, AI works well.

Just as a note to the OP, looting can encompass less time if you use the quick-loot option (but you lose the opportunity to find the rarest loot).

For the price, this game is what I would call a "Bang-For-Buck Steal". I honestly got introduced to the game like a week before it dropped and now iv got over 200hrs in the game (admittedly some afk doing chores around the house n such).

Are there issues? Yes.
Are they gamebreaking? No.
Is there jank? Yes
Is it hilarious? Meh, not really its just kinda there.

The FPS aspect of this game kinda tapers off at the later stages due to two reasons.
1. Mob scaling gets nuts
2. Your characters damage output does not scale well enough to be viable.

The Tower Defense aspect is fairly well done. You can build defensive lines using Outpost mods called Deciphers. They have ones for smaller weapons (Small Artillery Formation Decipher, aka Machine Guns, 30mm and Smart Mortars), larger weapons (Large Artillery Formation, Prewar Artillery is only option currently, probably get more later). You can also get barricades (Stakewall with relfective damage effect, sadly turrets seem to have issues firing over these, so I rarely use em as a defensive wall), and other things (tired of typing lol).

The looting aspect gets....tiresome? By the time you are at endgame you can probably just ignore anything below a certain rarity. I could probably just ignore anything below Epic or even below Legendary and speed up my mission times but im a loot goblin. ITS MINE! ALL MINE! Theres also a secondary goal of End of Tour (A string of missions, think military jargon) that your entire haul gets valued and you get a total value graph showing your loot. So far im just under a total of 300k in value brought in one tour. And im not sure if things I send back via Drone Delivery count towards that which was a lot of things.

I think I paid about $25 USD for the standard edition, at that price, I'm happy. In terms of cutting corners, I'd say yes and no, they seem to have focused on some elements at the expense of others. AI here is sufficient for the tower defense parts, but needs to be better to make looting more interesting, that's where I'd say they "cut corners". Talking perfect world here, but I'd be happy if they offered a DLC with more POI's/expanded looting, and with that, upgraded the AI a bit. Like I said, I recognize that AI is expensive, so I'm forgiving on that front.

I don't think the product is perfect, but I'm extremely happy with it, and the price is good IMO. I got what I expected (but I also did some research before I bought, the trailer doesn't reflect the actual gameplay well). Just trying to help the OP out with a buying decision, giving honest critique. For me personally, time is more valuable than money really.

Subjectively, I love the game, it's ambitious, as it's kind many different genres of games all in one. Everyone's comments are valid in some way to me. It's only going to get better though!

Objectively... I've played 140 hours and the vanguard edition cost 35 euros... that's 25 cents an hour... worth it!
