"Abandoned xenium containers" during recovery day

The ones with the miners next to them. What are these for? I tried breaking one open but it's essentially impossible without spending 5000 ammo.

And are the miners doing anything useful? The game does NOTHING to explain any of this stuff.

Nor does it mention that apparently the little sentry robots you can repair come with you to the next map. I think that's the case? I repaired two then had two in the next area.

the miners are harvesting them for core materials.

So on Recovery Day there are "Combat Miners" that convert those boxes into your Outpost Materials (so you can deploy the things you have Decipher Terminals for)... There is a tech you get somewhere during the Snow missions that lets you build more combat miners.

Unfortunately those miners will often get destroyed early unless you are good at defending the Frontlines so the boxes often go unused.

You can upgrade the miners to have more HP using power. You can also upgrade their mining ability. Sometimes it’s worth it to throw out a advance defensive line to protect the miners for a short period, and earn back what you spent on them by getting kills and letting the miners work. This also preserves ammo for your outpost until later on.
