Is there a way to automate the ammo refill for turrets? An unlockable? Running around crafting ammo boxes and manually reloading everything is annoying.

some people have talked about it being possible later, i dont know about the truth of it
Yes, you will get something called an "autoloader" that you can feed ammo boxes to. it will then load the turrets marked with green lines every time they run out of ammo as long as it has ammo in its reserve, then you get a version that can pick up ammo in a radius around it to autoload itself.
Anyone know when it's unlocked? Manually reloading turrets is still one of the major turn offs from actually engaging with the fun half of the game

i just got this blueprint to show up after like 20 hours, it was after a main mission where you try to save tower 7. So ya this game is a slow grind, i like that cuz i blaze through games typically. Now YMMV I have spent alot of time farming resources to build my base up and get past the "walls" of story progression.

As far as how they work i cant tell you, as gunny stated, rn im sure youll still have to feed the autoloader manually till other stuff comes along later.

you need to spend time farming mats on earlier missions to build up your base, storage, energy and such. the more energy the more missions you can skip, in forrest my runs are like 5-6 min. need alot of wood for storage so your first mission in a run in the woods map the big trees give like 3 wood each so thats one storage right there, and the other mats you usually get from skipping missions, obv its more lucrative to run the missions and find the specific items, so pick your poison.

along the way youll get more turret mats as well, like my base is the first upgrade and have like 7 30 mm and 8 mg and thats enough for rn to get through normal missions, snow biome, and i have enough mats to make like 10 more mg or 30 mm but would lower power and storage too much to not make runs viable.
Iv started changeing the ranges the turrets fire at in order to stagger when they run out. So all the turrets dont go down at once.

oh man I didn't realize you got resources for skipping. I just skipped basically a whole tour and got a bunch of good gear. Thank you!

fair advice, however the way its structured makes you feel like a scrub for needing to farm previous maps for gear. Also my second expedition, i thought it had bugged because it never once credited me for unlocking an NPC and speaking to it, i thought i'd have to redo it then bam, mission complete.
I got an auto loader on the second map when I got that cargo container. Its tall about the width of a mg 3 times has high. Takes 6 ammo boxes to fill it and auto feeds turrets next to it.

Ye there is a building for you put 6 boxes and i it does them but you have to refill the AL
i got autoloader now with mortars and ciws and 105mm, the auto loader holds 6 ammo canisters and 6 extra shells for arty

Cwis is so good chews though ammo though it needs the AL just for its self lol
now you just need to get some conveyors and auto crafting for ammo packs xD
