Core gun and barrel types/suitable attacks for them
Any thoughts on which core gun types are best for which Morph Xens?

For example, Rapid core gun or drum mag core gun for Inferno?

The Turbine barrel seems intriguing but I assume would only be useful for powerful single attacks with at least a few seconds cooldown. (I'm not sure if it's worth it. What increase do you get? I'll experiment.)

I was wondering if it's possible to quickly swap out guns to avoid waiting for cooldowns. Then you could put three black holes or something like that on a turbine barrel weapon. fire them off then switch to another gun (potentially with more of the same powerful attack in each slot).

Honestly I just use anything I find on the floor. Part of the fun in this game is trying out new combinations.

However, I have had a lot of success lately with a combination of scattershot barrel and the orange shotgun xen, which allows for a whooping 24 projectiles per shot, basically oneshotting anything that comes close to you.

Another fun combination is scattershot and the black hole xen, simply because the only thing better than one black hole... is THREE BLACK HOLES!

The doubleshot pairs well with rapid fire I found, since it basically doubles your fire rate. However, for the same reason it pairs well with heavy or other sniper xens, since it alleviates their weakness of low fire rate somewhat.

Both those multishot barrels pair INCREDIBLY well with rockets. Seriously, try it. It's fun. Rockets also make for great jetpacks, especially if paired with Fae's infinite ammo skill for unlimited fuel ;)

I realize I didn't read the question right. Still gonna leave my answer up, just because.

For Core gun types I honestly never really cared about them. In my opinion the accompanying stat boost is much more important for usability.

Rockets? When I tried using multi-shot barrels with rocket type weapons I found I was getting ludicrously low damage on the target range to the point that the weapon was almost useless. What am I doing wrong?

Doubleshot does about the same damage as a Heavy barrel for a sniper build, especially if you are using Xen modifiers that trigger on high/full HP, as I think that the second shot will not benefit. I think that it is also less accurate and overall degrades my vision due to high recoil.
It could be useful if you overgear content and one of the two shots is enough to make the kill, then the second one can land on anything that is behind. Sadly, I find that unrealistic.

I've been experimenting. Multi-shot barrels make everything I use ridiculously weak, and heavy barrels obviously make things more powerful. The turbine barrel consistently out-damages the heavy barrel, which is what I was somewhat surprised by. This does require waiting for the charge but that's not really a problem as long as you aren't using a fast attack.

The weird part is... the turbine barrel's charge affect never seems to trigger with elemental scatter shot. It just stays charged and the shot is presumably not boosted.

Anyway with the turbine barrel on an orange explosive core gun I can do around 60 to 70 thousand damage with the chain reaction nuke and 30 thousand damage with the cluster missiles. That's pretty nice and the elemental scatter works fine against scorpions. It's just annoying that this gun only has 3 slots so I'll need to carry a heavy Xen with me for sniping purposes when the need arises. The elemental scatter for some reason does terrible damage against medium enemies and larger.

Can you explain how it works? How to charge it or how to tell that is has charged by itself? I put it on once to see what it does and I only saw my weapon glowing, kinda like Grenade underbarrel. Now I'm thinking that it needs to stop glowing, and it takes pretty long to do that?

If I recall correctly, the weapon will pulse for a few seconds before settling on a constant glow. Then if you shoot (the shot is extra powerful) the glow goes away and it goes through the pulsing cycle again.

Certain Xens don't trigger the powerful shot so the weapon gets stuck constantly glowing until you fire off a Xen that does.
