Wonder, if I am the only one avoiding all event nodes for that reason (and ... most suck anyway IMO). :D
Same!
All I have ever wanted was a basic, somewhat modern ice hockey game on the PC and this is it. I have not tried playing MP, maybe I will connect a 2nd controller next time I have a friend over and play on the big screen (TV).
EA stopped making NHL for PC in '09 and modders have modded the life out of it as much as they can, I personally did not enjoy the game play. EA's games were garbage until about 2012-2013 iirc. I used to buy them all for PS3/PS4 up til about 2018-19 when I realized they just kept recycling the same garbage and charging $70 for it.
I've tried Slapshot (PC), which was a 3vs3 Online Only knock-hockey style game.. it was a neat idea but Online Only + a TOXIC community turned me off. Slapshot had very difficult and annoying controls as you used your Mouse to "flick" the puck, folks were testing Trackball mice and it was just silly IMO. I tried Super Blood Hockey and it was pretty fun.. but it was basically just the original Ice Hockey (NES) game with some blood and updated graphics.. a tad too arcade-like in the end.
Honestly the BEST hockey game on PC I occasionally play is Midway's old NHL Open Ice 2on2 Arcade game from 1995. They released a copy for PSX in '96 and PC/Windows copy in '97.. I did not know of the PSX/PC versions until about a year or two ago.. and people want like $800+ for the PSX version on eBay.. I guess it was limited edition, in Canada Only lol.
I can't even call Midway's Open Ice a PC game as I use an emulator to play it on my PC, more so my little Raspberry Pi4 with RetroPie and the PSX copy is an absolute blast.. it was basically the NHL's version of NBA Jam. I wish Midway was still around because that game would still be awesome with updated rosters... oh well.
But I have grown too responsible buying consoles solely for couch sports games.
Maybe this game finds the success to offer additional, more "boring" game modes.
I hope so.. I enjoy the "boring" modes once in awhile. I liked doing a Season once in awhile in EA's NHL games, but more so enjoyed the HUT or whatever mode. Slowly but surely they made it a little better. It was fun playing w/ or vs your friends at home or online.
I miss when SEGA made the 2K games(ESPN Hockey Night PS2), before 2K themselves took over and destroyed the greatness Sega had given us. I remember in high school unlocking all the pucks and trophies, at the time it was unbelievably awesome and destroyed EA's NHL games.
I haven't had enough free time to really dig into this game but from what I've played I love it.. it reminds me a bit of Mutant League Hockey but isn't as silly.. I guess the only thing I would want is a "Turbo" button lol.. but I guess that's what the "94" ability is more or less hehe.
