Caves

Where the heck are they? THere's a bunch of cliff faces and rocky outcrops on my map, so I went there, and nothing, no caves. Help? I'm stuck.

Just a bad luck. Keep searching? On my 1st run I found only one after couple of days searching. This run I found 3 just by pure chance while looking for a nice camp location.

That’s where they should be, but not every cliff has one. I found more than I care to count during the demo, and only like three in my current world so far (though I haven’t really needed to look for more).

The only stuff close enough for me to get to has zero caves, it's a massive area of the centre of my map. And I got stuck in a big blight storm on the way back, so I'm screwed.

How so? Too much Blight infection? I was also once caught out in the open during Blight storm and iirc I got only about 15%.

By the time I got back I had 40%, and there's not enough mushrooms in the nearby woods to fix me. And the mushrooms I've planted in a dark place and watered will not grow. Not to mention the game deleting my items being preserved and ♥♥♥♥.

This is maddening, I've explored every rocky area save one small spot in the farthest reaches of my map. I've found a grand total of ONE piece of iron ore on the surface, and not a single cave. NOT ONE. How can I progress? How can finding them be this hard?

Can anyone show me on their map where they've found caves, so I know I'm not just being stupid?

The Elric quest cave had 3 iron nodes and some loose ore in my game.
I am also having difficulty finding caves though, only 3 so far in 3 mountain areas and none of them have any realgar crystal.

Supposedly the island has a lot of ore spawns, you could try there?

I’m playing in realistic mode, so those with question marks mean I’m not 100% sure of the exact location, but it’s in the vicinity. Found a ton of iron in one of those cliffs:

None in my play. And I found one cave finally ... it has ... 2 pieces of iron, not even enough to do anything with! And then goes down into some water. Frustrating.

I have a similar problem. Two small pieces of iron by cliffs/outcrops after many hours of searching, one inside a cave, three other caves with either nothing much in them or with pools I can't get out of. Enough copper and tin ore to fill a storage box but seemingly no chance of making that pick-axe. I was absolutely loving this game - it's fantastic apart from this lack of iron - but now I'm not sure whether to start a new game in the hope of a better map or give up on it altogether.

It's weird, by the time I can make a pick and break up these copper rocks, I'm at the end game, I don't know what's left. I hope more is planned, it seems like I'll have a ton of copper and tin that I just don't need.

Of course more is planned, Early Access and the story content have just started.

I tried starting a new map after only getting three iron pieces the first time, and on the new map I found 11 pieces very quickly, in two caves in cliffs less than 1/5 of the map's width from my camp. So it does seem that you can be lucky or unlucky with the iron.

Unbelievably unlucky, and it seems like that means their algorithm will need a lot of work.
