the way i have found to get fresh pickaxe is to go out in the wilds and get steel tools from buildings. then , deconstruct those tools and then put the steel parts in the crucible furnace and heat up . once the steel parts are hot enough quickly take them to a stump and forge into steel chunks. then reheat and form into the steel tool you need . DrawingPen on Youtube plays nearly daily , so if you want to see it done , watching him would be ideal.
