How do I remove plain boulder?

Hi everyone, I started to build my base, made basic shelter with ordinary, rather small non-material boulder next to it. I thought I will get the pick, and break the boulder so i can expand the shelter. But even now when i finally have the steel pick I can't even hit the boulder? As I can break all material stones without problem, it seems like this is by design - which is really strange.

How comes I can destroy iron ore, but can't normal stone? Literally unplayable :)

Please, can we have the ability to just destroy at least the smaller boulders lying on the ground, using pickaxe? Ideally it could yield 3-5 large stones, which would be fair and feel realistic taking the size of them.

Common complaint. In the meantime, if they are small as you say, you can consider raising the ground around them by dumping dirt at four points around them, then using those mounds as corners to lay down a floor. The levelling step of floor-building will raise the ground evenly around and over the boulder, then you can level out a smoother gradient around it.
