Coyotes and Bears are out of hand
I'm only on day 8 and the coyote population is getting absolutely out of hand for me. If I let my fire die, they come into my camp. I have a fence around, so they attack. So if I'm at camp for the day I have a fire going on all of the time.

However, when I'm out exploring, it's quite rare that I can cut down a small tree without getting attacked. I look around, make sure they're sort of far-ish away and I start.

If I leave my camp to explore, I am constantly avoiding packs of coyotes. At first, it was every so often but now it seems like there are coyotes, multiple packs of them, in every single direction.

I just made a wheelbarrow in hopes of going out collecting stuff, but I can't get more than a few hundred yards outside of camp before getting ambushed.

I try to carry some spears, but since they don't stack, they take up half of my inventory.

Bronze knife and the steel knife that I started with don't really do much to hurt them, so I'm kind of at a loss as to how to protect myself. Any tips?

i have the same issues. i partially solved it by building a fence quite far from my camp, to avoid triggering an attack while working there;

for the ones in the wild, i noticed that if i go far enough, they wont spawn that much, so i am safer; also leave the camp for a while and coming back seems to reduce a little the population, but anyway i fell the same about having too much bears and wolfs. Hey, this is not Yellowstone NP!
Just get used to it. Predators in this game are just wandering around and not actually in hunting at all. As long as you don't step within aggro range, everything is fine. Use throwing spear or small rock to attack them(and make sure you don't get into aggro range) could drive them away.

You can actually get quite close and even if they do aggro (turn red) you can immediately move out of aggro range and they'll carry on as before. They do always tend to wander my way when I want to do something though!

Yeah this is what I typically do but it's just super annoying when I'm chopping near my base. I think I need to do what Malhorme said above and just make a larger fence so then it doesn't really aggro them through it.

I also think that there are too many coyotes and wolves spawning especially near the camp, and even if a fire is burning, I have 2 of them, then it does not have a sufficient area to scare off wild animals, so if only it were possible to configure different animal spawns or the range of the fire, it would be more convenient. I wrote through a translator, I apologize if something is not clear)))

i dont really mind them I usually create a semi circle of logs on a shoreline and then whilst they are freaking out at one side, I can swim or run away. It also means i can chuck spears at them if the semi circle is big enough

Killed 5 bears, all were 50% or more contaminated on easy mode day 5. so there not a food source. wich is dumb imo.

Yea, this is the most stupid thing, having the meat you get from the biggest predators contaminated, it's practically useless both from wolves, coyotes and now also from bears it seems.

Someone should deliver potential meat, fat and leather directly to you camp... :)

A wolf aggro'd yesterday and chased me to my nearby fire and stood *in it* while it killed me :lunar2019crylaughingpig: Hope the dev has this stuff on his roadmap (including predators not aggo'ing each other, which is bizarre).

I also hate this. It's just easier to survive on picking up pinecones and blueberries than it is eating meat.
