Controller controls need work

The game is fantastic for the most part, but sometimes playing on the controller feels unruly. Your character clings to walls and ceilings like he's stuck to them with super glue, or, conversely, decides to randomly detach from them. This is particularly noticeable, along with the annoyingly tuned aim assist, during the games third boss the laser drone

A dedicated "cling to walls" button, like in Celeste, could go a long way.

I just want to know how to get a controller working with the game in the first place. I've tried 2 Xbox controllers and a Stadia controller and none of them will control the game. How do you get controller to function AT ALL? Is there a setting I'm missing?

I played the whole game on Steam Deck. I'm sure a Dualshock 4 will work as well. You can always try Steam Big Picture. Or look at the Steam controller compatibility settings.

I had no luck at all getting any controller to work unfortunately. Have played the whole game on mouse and keyboard, lol. Big Picture mode worked with my controllers but they weren't recognized by the game.

I couldn't get it to work for me either on Xbox controller. Anybody know how to get it working?
