softlock! game bugged out when trying to snap a photo

[The Highlander]

I tried to take a photo of a whale and it went into photo mode but without any UI and now I'am unable to exit that mode. when I press WASD the camera moves but nothing else I can do. only solution so far is alt+F4. And now I am very scared to do anything in the game fearing it could just randomly do stuff like this after a long exploration or fishing excourse.
