Remove the timer on timed quest.
Just about all the negative reviews, mine included, are there because of the hidden timed quests. I feel that they ruin the pace of the game at worse or at best become a disappointment. If you start them too early then you either have to rush the game or you lose the quest and are punished for exploring. So please just remove the timed aspect of these quests. Let people take their time in completing them. Especially since they demand end game fish.

I actually restarted the game for these quests. I don't mind, since I'd already beaten the game, but I was a bit disapointed that I'd failed these. (I initially avoided them, because the guys look super dang evil. Given how the game ends though, I don't mind helping them out.)

Fundamentally, it breaks the implicit contract this genre of games has with the player. This could be a valid or necessary step if that's the design of the game, but Dredge doesn't go that direction, leaving just the handful of missions to annoy the perfectionist for no thematic gain and to annoy the veteran gamer by establishing that the game is willing to break the contract but do nothing with it.

The fish are all nearby, you should research the area beforehand, the time limit is sufficient

With all due respect, I'm not sure you know what you are talking about.
One requires fish from 3 completely different biomes, one of those being the last one you reach. Another requires a crab from across the ocean. Then the hooded figure in the starting biome needs Abyssal fish that you don't get to much later. The only one that could be considered easier under the time limit is the one in the volcanic region, which by then you could have easily failed 1-3 of the others.

There is no "fish are all nearby" especially if you don't look up guides or walkthroughs and you don't know that these are timed quests. These completely break the flow of the game in one way or another. Either you fail them without knowing you could, or you know you could and ruin the pace of the game.

For me these little sidequest were never a big deal, but I can see why people gets annoyed by them, common, is not that big of a deal, that being said yeah, I agree they need some tweaks, is not that they are time based but the lack of clarity about the rules, I'm not sure how would be better, these side quest either should have some kind of warning or be like the other regular sidequests, so a bit of constructive criticism.

My suggestions would be
- adding a timer when you take the sidequest, how much time?, it doesn't matter, as long as the rules are stablished
- removing the time limit entirely, but I would not take this since I like the fact those dudes can die, these are very unique sidequest and I hope they keep them as close as they can to their original vision
- progress based timer, like you have all the time in the world to finish these sidequests but as soon as you attempt another you either lose the original or just make time required for these passes, this approach would need a warning too
- sidequest reset, how about if you don't finish them in time you have to do them all over again? sounds tedious but I gave up when some of those dudes asked for a crab and I didn't have a cage with me that far, at least would be fair to know what they will ask for the whole sidequest so you can catch everything first

oh well, still not a big deal imo but I hope they rework them as well, personally I would like if they don't add a timer, because despite the day and night cycle the game lets you play at your own pace, but I like how they want to give that sense of urgency so I hope they keep it somehow

Remove the timer, make it a bit more realistic, or at least WARN the player it's timed and give us a timer UI element like a watch with a mark of when the time is up. Heck maybe an upgrade like an ice/salt box to extend fish life near the end.
