That being said, at this point I’m 100% sure fish do not spoil while in a trawling net. If you can manage to catch a specific fish you need in there, you can keep it as long as you want so long as you don’t move it.
Just confirming that the trawl net does indeed keep fresh. Take note that 'sell all fish' does empty your net as well, so you'll need to sell individually if you want to save something in the net.
It could also be inventory specific, as it definitely seems like some of the puzzles that require multiple fish at once will keep them from spoiling further if you put things in without solving them.
