Especially end game, I am hopping from region to region so it is just nice to have a build covering it all since you can start in Devil's Spine and end in Pale Reach.
If the reward trawl actually caught all the ice fish I probably wouldn't have batted an eyelash, but alas it does not.
I'm not sure I see the need to be able to catch Ice fish in Devil's Spine any more than I see the need to catch Mangrove fish in the Pale Reach. These items are obviously specialized to the regions you're fishing in.
That said, while I don't personally have a problem with performing equipment swaps, I do think that the versatile rod could probably be updated to allow you to catch Ice along with Coastal, Shallow, Mangrove and Volcanic, based on its description:
"An all-rounder's rod, this rig supports a quick-swap attachment allowing the user to change lines dependent on the situation."
