Pale reach... is that it?
The ending was a bit... anticlimactic. Is there something more? I got the achievement...

Did you dredge up the item that appeared in the final cutscene?

I kind of have to agree, the item is kind of neat but it has the same problem most of the other areas do. It's got its gimmick and the hints of something deeper and then it's over.

I personally feel the same way about the Stellar Basin part of the main game. I say this because that's what you have to compare the DLC to, the other islands in the game, but not the game as a whole. If I have any complaints about Pale Reach is that there's no reason in the main game to go out there. Maybe it's because I played on a completed save file but other than the map getting updated with a big old ? to the south, there's no mention of it. Not from the Mayor, unlike all the other islands, and I can't imagine the Collector pointing you in that direction.

But basically, it's an out of the way side area where you can get some useful items, especially if you're hunting down aberrations, and arguably an item that makes on of the abilities gained in the main game useless. It can exist but it can't affect anything major with the story. So the ending to the island is very "Well you did the thing, back to what you was doing elsewhere", while the ending to the other islands is "Well that happened, but now I'm one step closer to the ending."

I got told to go down there by the mayor, actually. Basically told about a photographer who basically teaches you how to open the paths with food and then immediately disappears as a one off character.

The Photographer was introduced in update 1.2 and has a side quest for you. She is located on one of the small islands between Blackstone Isle and Gale Cliffs. That comment the Mayor makes was added in 1.2 to make players aware of her it has nothing to do with the Pale Reach at all. As Moodyman90 said no one in the main game makes reference to the Pale Reach existing you just have to go there on your own volition.

Huh, that's what I get for making assumptions. Thanks for the correction.

Sorry for bothering u dude, but i need of a info.
The unique fish like Oarfish ecc ecc can be catch like Trophy?
RCMidas Nov 17, 2023 @ 11:32am
Yes. If you do not see the Yellow Trophy Mark when you start to fish there, stop and try again. You might need to catch one or two fish elsewhere first.

Right, that is another positive point for the Pale Reach, it gives a post game released character, The Photographer, a little bit extra to do in the game other than "Go get my dropped items and I'll give you a camera." Her being there shows off a game mechanic that will be used at least two other times in the area. More if you find a threat of the area troublesome.
RCMidas Nov 17, 2023 @ 2:29pm
There's even a character-appropriate reason for her to be there: a new biome suggests higher wildlife diversity, and she is waiting for a rare narwhal sighting - which, as I will remind people the game is set close to a century ago, would be quite a scoop for the age!

I disagree on it making the main game ability useless. Imo it works great as a combo, especially if you leave it in the new area, which is noticeably tedious to get to from Blackstone (compared to the other 4 surrounding areas, at least (admittedly I have the fastest engine combination possible)). It allows you to set it up, then go do anything else, anywhere else, and return to that area of your choice from Blackstone, quickly from anywhere.

It's short but I liked the DLC quite a bit. It doesn't add anything of real value as far as end-game content is concerned, but it was fun and certainly adds to the overall game.

I'm not sure I see any particular need for someone pointing it out to you. The pale reach is easy to locate, both being visible on the horizon and marked on the map, and it's explained that it floated in from elsewhere.

The items found in the DLC are quite good as well. I'm not really sure what the problem is?
