Whats the point of nets?
I've tried using the net and it maybe catches 1 to 2 fish in a day. However it only lasts a day before needing repair so it seems extremely pointless. Am I using it wrong or is it just that useless?

Much like the crab pots, you need to research to get better nets that will last longer and catch more/bigger fish. That said, the real point of them is to catch trawling only fish, like a jellyfish for a side quest.

It catches fish while you're just moving around, so it makes sense to use when you're primarily exploring and not fishing. But then it's easily worth it. You get more money from it than it costs to repair, and you can also get better nets.

It's both passive income and passive encyclopaedia completion. You may happen to catch fish or aberrations that you haven't seen yet.

Also, there are some species of sealife that you can only catch with a trawl.

Two species, there's two species that can only be caught trawling.

Crab pots are much better for passive income I found. Just dump them next to the travelling merchant in whatever zone you're currently completing.

Although someone did talk about the use of trawling nets to keep fish fresh while doing some of the side quests, like hooded figures and altars.

Nets pay out really well without you having to do anything. A good source of money and fish log info. On top of that I'm pretty sure fish inside remain fresh. I'm not 100% on that.

Yeah you basically need the last net for collecting certain oceanic creatures for full completion

If you rush the final net early on while ignoring the side ones - you won't ever need cash again without bothering to fish much manually, allowing you to mostly focus on filling encyclopedia and gathering the ship upgrade mats.

The nets worried me originally seeing the early ones only last a day or so in durability, but once you go past the basic net, it will generate you plenty of money and let you focus on exploring and quest objectives. I'd even say you should go for the ocean net first just to make getting the full encyclopedia a little less tedious.

Oh alright, the first net was so bad I just didn't understand why you'd ever upgrade it. If it catches fish faster that sounds worth.

Yes, each net has a number of fish it catches per day listed as a range (Like 4-5). I forget what the bigger nets have, but they catch pretty quickly, in addition to the higher level nets having massive storage space. Plus, fish do not get stale in the net. So you can lower your ocean net, cruise around for days, and when you come back to dock have all sorts of sharks, sailfish, etc, nice and fresh to sell.

Dumb question: When the net catches fish, where do they actually go? Can't see them in my hold.
Geeks On Hugs Apr 10, 2023 @ 6:10pm
They are in the net itself. You'll have a tab for the net similar to how you have a tab for storage.

Also worth noting that trawled fish stay alive and therefore fresh indefinitely.
