Your captain is only human. He needs sleep, but whether there are items or things that allow longer duration while out drudging without having to sleep, I don't know yet, just got the game. But sleeping helps prevent your captain from succumbing to the terrors of the fog and whatnot. Basically, there are things in the fog, or the fog brings some fears. Or basically fear of the unknown in the area.
Can't help but love the John Carpenter movie back in the day. The Fog. Reminds me of themes similar to, but probably unrelated.
