How to get the Giant Amphipod and Snailfish?

I can't get the Giant Amphipod and Snailfish. When I open the generator, i go to the center but it needs Hadal to be able to fish.

At that point you should be able to spend your research points on a new rod that allows you to catch Abys and Hadal fish.

You can get a Hadal rod by going down the research tree. As far as I know this is the only way to do it. Took me a while to find this myself.

Not quite, just with the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ abyssal rod (and an ocean rod...) you can catch the required fish for a puzzle shrine that gives you a better Hadal rod, not "the best" Hadal rod, but a good enough one that you can ignore spending research on that if you want to work on engines or something instead.
