What are these touch stones?

Has anyone figured out what to do with these stones that have the option to touch them although nothing happens.

One of the giant crabs has one on it's back that is lit up although you are unable to interact with it.

I though they were gonna be fast travel points but really they are just optional little lore things you can read if you touch them while you have high panic.
