Disappointed in the Altar Rewards

Why are they weaker than the ones you can research? Shouldn't it be the other way around (like the light)? Especially since by equipping them, you're essentially giving in to the madness and making your boat a living monster

The Sinew Spindle is not bad, either. Maybe not great at every point throughout the game, but adding coastal and shallow for only 2 tiles can be pretty useful.

They also often allow you to start fishing nodes a bit earlier than you would have been able to otherwise. Which can be handy at times.

Yeah, I noticed that in both the zones which require special equipment just for that zone only like Volcanic/Mangrove, the altars are really easy to complete and give you the appropriate rod. Heck, if you happened to go to one of those zones first instead of following the story, you could just start fishing there right away.

Plus, the devs made a comment somewhere a while back about many of the equipment being there to provide different amounts of space efficiency. You might have a big rod with high fishing efficiency, but it doesn't cover some fish type you need. You can't place another large rod (maybe because you have a trawl equipped or still in a small boat), but you could put that two slot purple rod and it will benefit from your overall high fishing speed on the other item.

Ahhh, I get their purpose if they're early find bonuses then and not endgame equipment. TBH I kinda grinded and rushed to get the harvesting platform before the end of GaleCliffs, so that took care of Shallow, Coastal and Oceanic. Then hoarded research parts to I could get the FathomlessWinch ASAP, so by then, my versatilerod+fathomlesswinch combo covers everything even before I was done on StellarBasin.

I guess I kinda broke it by just researching rods and a few engines at the start.

The main benefit is that you can get them quite easily without having to Research.

-I used the Sinew Needle for the majority of the game since it's 1x2 in size.
-Viscera Crane became my Abyssal / Hadal rod until I got Fathomless Winch.
-The Mouth of the Deep was better than anything I could research, which led to getting Fathomless Winch faster.
-Encrusted Talisman is used whenever I don't need a net. No better research available.

The only reward I didn't use was Tendom Rod.

Also, isn't encrusted talisman part of the main quest where you get the flames for the volcano area?
