Two unresearchable rods?

There are two rods in the rods screen that will FINALLY allow me to fish in hadal and abyssal locations. The current relic I am trying to get is in the Stellar Basin and I need that gear to get it out. The thing is I cant research the gear I need to get. I have the research parts to do so but the game just wont allow me to do it. I have researched every other rod in the rod screen thinking that maybe I had to do that before these would unlock but they are still inaccessible. So I figured maybe I had to have my boat updraded to max so I spent a few hours grinding that out.......and I still cant research the first hadal/abyssal rod.

Is this a bug or is there something game mechanic that the game has not made clear that is blocking my progress. Im utterly stumped and after spending hours on it am about to give up.

Just continue the quest line. I dunno why you have to plug the thing into the generator to start researching better deep lines, but it is what it is.

Ok they current quest line has me getting a relic from the Starlight Pontoon and I am definite I have found it but it requires the rods I cant research. I mean its hard to be sure in that area as the tentacles come up and kill you while you are trying to search.

Go bug the scientist lady in the old fort, if you get her the sample fish she wants she'll give you can retrieve prototype parts from the laboratory, which she turns into a long line you can fish hadal and abyssal with. Then she'll give you a thing you have to hook up to the generator at the lab. Once that's hooked up, you can start researching.

They should put some sort of message there saying "You do not have access to this upgrade yet" or just simply not put those two upgrades on the upgrade screen until you have unlocked the capacity to get them as I was convinced it was a bug.

Okay I just need one more thing for here so I will go check into that.

Ah that will be the problem. I dont have a net at all. I prefer the tactile fishing. Ill go get a net now.
