The refined outboard engine just should not exist

There are single slot engines, one is from the DLC—that plus one of the single slotters is faster than 2 of the other. Also, there is a point where its shape allows you to squeeze it in with other engine types for optimal speed. Upgrade your ships engine equip slot size and you'll eventually see what I mean.

You can basically see everything on the screen anyway, you don't even need the engine in question to get the single rocket engine. These research upgrades are stupidly balanced, this tab really seems like it was thought of last second.

The best engine config is 2x Twin Prop Engines, and 2x Jet Drive Engine. This will give you a total speed of 102.9Kn.

I'm sorry, you are correct. i did not factor the base speed of the boat, which is 10.5kn.

in that case the max speed would be 105.5kn.

I'm not sure what you're smokin' cause I've got 1 Engine Stack [72Kn] and 2 Improved Outboard Motors [2x16.9Kn] for a total of 117 Kn.

You likely are receiving speed bonuses from books read, which I'm not sure was taken into account above.

Stack + 4x Jet Drives is still the highest base speed since two Jets give more kn than any 2-slot engine. And Stack gives the most kn you can get out of 6 slots.

so after completing the game and maxing all the engines, my preferred endgame.... all the single slot jet drives.... sure i could gain an extra 10 knots or so from the max research engine, but then i take an impact and it could take it out entirely..... with a full load of the single slot jet drives i still maxed at 112.5kn and had massive redundancy in case of damage....

i just wish the final build slots were the full bottom 2 rows instead of the 2 sticking out the top of the engine rack....

tbh there really doesn't seem a decent reason to even research the bottom sets of engines when a full rack of single slot jet drives is almost as fast, but with way more redundancy, the only downside is you have to farm more fish to buy them all.... :)

Price to thought ratio, less people want to think about how many jet drives they can fit in X than they want to think about the fastest way to fit the biggest engine they can in.

This comes down to how many slots you've got. If you have five slots early-game, you'll get the most speed by using Refined + Improved to fill all five slots. If you choose to use 2x Improved instead, you're going to be filling four slots, and your speed will be lower.

So Refined definitely has a place early game.
