I'm about 15 hours into the game, and I feel like I've barely scratched the surface as far as the main story goes. I've been exploring, fishing, upgrading, and having a wonderful time. I remember beating Bioshock 2 in like 5 hours, so this game so far has given me more content than that game, and I've still got a long ways to go.
As I said before, if you consider any experience pointless simply because it may end someday, then there is no reason for you to do anything. Not a great way to live in my most humble opinion.
As for replay value, there is a story but it also is quite sandboxy at the same time.
I would definitely play through it again
