I saw that topic earlier. This is from a different quest that you can also possibly fail; the quest for the ring is failed by getting hit while transporting a passenger and someone has brought it up in another thread.
I could be wrong ofc but it would be weird for the ring to have any special effect when you can easily sell it automatically for 90 gold by clicking sell all at the trader.
When you think about it, it would be really counter productive then to have a ring that has an effect that you need to have on you and have a feature to quick sell all valuables and you can't use it ever then if you don't want to accidentally sell the ring. Doesn't make any sense to me.
There's another quest item, the brass buckle, that can be sold to the trader instead of giving it to the Grieving Father. I don't know what happens if you give it to the father (I'm guessing it's another skill book).
It's a big part of why the ring is confusing me a little.
I'm also wondering if the ring is supposed to have some lore relevance since I've found one other castaway who had some... interesting things to say (I won't spoil who).
Wikis are usually fan made so it'll probably take a year or so for one to pop up depending on how popular the game gets or how devoted a small minority fans becomes.
If I remember correctly, in the demo while you could sell the Brass Buckle deliberately, it wasn't sold with the mass sell button.
I cannot tell whether it does anything.
Based only on the wording, it is plausible that it's a buff. But I have not encountered another item that seems to be a buff, and don't know of a reasonable way to test it.
Considering the strength of the skillbook perks if it does give a buff it's likely only 10%. I kept mine just in case I ran into a quest or something that wants it but I keep it in storage so that I don't loose it.
The only things I can think of it doing is maybe stacking with the sustainable fishing perks or increasing the chance of a trophy fish but I also can't think of a reliable way to test it.
Didn't see it mentioned already, but make sure you don't sell Dog Tags either. They are used for something that is not required, but very valuable.
As someone mentioned before it will be sold if you do the mass sell option at the trader. Other quest items are not sold when you do this.
// Finished the game now and it has not been used for any quest or anything else. Can't say it has given me any kind of luck either.
dunno what it actually does if anything
They are a part of quest in the Mangrove islands.
