Storage bin question

Does putting fish in storage keep it from going bad? I've noticed that leaving caught crabs in traps doesn't spoil them and that keeping fish in your net doesn't either. If I say stop off at another dock, can I put the fish in my hold in storage and then sail back to the fishmonger after staying overnight without losing fish value via spoilage?
