What do you need in order to safely fish at night
I'm Coming up on the third level of hull upgrade
But I don't know if there's other stuff I need in order to be able to fish at night without taking damage
So far i've been sticking to the day and only early even

There's a couple quests that offer books that increase panic resistance. With both of them you will no longer reach red panic levels just from being out and about after dark unless you encounter something that boosts it i.e. red fog. In addition brighter lights will make the ghost rocks a lot easier to see and react to. More lumens = bigger cone of light. When you start you have 0 external lights and are only using the cabin light and the lantern outside the door. It's worth it to drop 1-2 of the $180 light fairly early as the best light setup uses 2 of them and a quest reward. The spooky boats that aren't really boats can be avoided by cutting your lights before they notice you or getting close to a dock. Other than that it's just a matter of time management. For example if you need to catch a night only fish and bring it to a different area, you may be better off resting until 3-4 AM so by the time you catch it and get moving most threats will despawn and panic will not increase after 6 AM. If you're close to a dock you can also rest for a couple hours in the middle of the night to reduce or reset panic before heading back out.
