Questions about the Scientist?

What does he actually do? I mean his research. Why he turns into a Deep One in the end? Some many unanswered questions. And he provides us nothing, he only request fish samples. The real providers are other working staffs. His only function is like an entrance ticket to this new upgrade facility. I really want more story about him.

correct he turn himself into a deep one to try to "communicate with the deep"
However his form was not sufficiant

Lore-wise that's most likely correct, but you can catch more than one instance of entry 230, so it's also possible more folks have mutated into Deep Ones after coming into contact with the dark substance.

Not necessary him, but his kind.
In Lovecraftian novels some people inherited deep ones genes and evolved into them later.

I fed mine 230th species to the Pale Reach horned beast
