I saw there were recommendations to go off the map where the warning to turn around pops up and use the exotic bait and this did not work for me. Anyone actually found this one?

Use Aberrated Bait directly under the rig after completing the scientist's quest, it may take a few tries, don't know how uncharted waters guy did it but my method seems repeatable in my own testing(reloading my save, don't know if you can get multiples of #230 yet.)

Just did some looking on reddit, seems like it can spawn anywhere in the open ocean with aberration bait, it's just random chance... and since bait can't spawn fish you can't catch it might be beneficial to remove all rods except one which only catches ocean fish.

Got 230 first try by removing all my fishing gear but the Glacial Lance, IDK if other types of exotic fish could even appear in the open ocean but I wanted to minimize my chances. Then I used manifest and banish back to back to spike my panic up and sailed into the open ocean at night until my panic looked maxed out. Tossed out the Aberrated Bait and popped up

I did it by simply using Abberation bait right next to the Iron Rig, removed all rods except the Ice Rod since there are no ice fish around the rig, just oceanic. And then put the bait, if no special fish quit to main menu and go back in immediately after. Because the game saves only when you dock somewhere.

Thankfully it is super fast to reload since it might take you several tries. It took me around 10 to 15 or so.
