crap ending(s)
not going to give it away, but wanted to say the game was great. The fishing / adventures was a blast. The ending was a cop out. Seriously bad.

Have you read any HP Lovecraft? The ending was very on brand for the games theme

The endings were about what I expected. Yes, they weren't superb and extravagant and 30 minutes of fully voiced cutscenes. The 'standard' ending is rather Lovecraftian, as stated above. Kind of expected that from the storyline and what happened to some of the fish. Just kind of glad the alternate ending's there if you listen to the lighthouse keeper.

That is no end which may begin again; in an ebbing tide flows new beginnings every now and then.

I think the endings are perfectly fine.

What was, will be; what will be, was.

The endings fit the Lovecraftian genre.

Just as a couple of examples ...

Wow... "We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far."

Eldritch horror has never been a genre known for happy endings.

I didn't mind the lack of "happy" endings. I would have liked the endings to be more explicit. Maybe a narrator scroll at the end, instead of the 20 second-ish animation of the ending(s) followed by credits that kind of show some aftermath-ish.

For example - default ending, even a text scrawl:
At the end, I had my Julie back. Our love had damned us, just as it damned Greater Morrow, but to me it was still worth it. As the chaos reigned behind us, we sailed away from that bitter coast of sorrow and madness. As we said, the book continued to whisper promises...

That sounds interesting and I kind of agree with that.

I don't recall Lovecraft using alternate endings. Also, the story details are tighter in Lovecraft than in Dredge. For example, if Lovecraft were writing this story the technology of the boat would be consistent with the era.

I agree with the original poster. I wasn't impressed by the ending of the story of Dredge.

The era is kind of unclear though. I think it's intentional that the found messages/clothing styles/technology have some anachronistic overlap.
