there are creatures that come from the depths if you're too panicked, which I also tried my hardest to avoid.
I would honestly advise short bursts of gameplay wherever it comes to leaving the shallows and coasts to fish or explore. Do a single dawn-dusk-dawn cycle, dock your boat to save the game, take a few minutes to consider how you feel, and go back into the game thereafter if you still feel ok.
There are only three or so instances of something coming out of the deep, unseen blue.
