Not enough wood, too much metal - Do new dredge spots respawn?

UPDATE:
Material (and fish) is infinte. When I came back to an island after a while a lot of new dredge spot have been there. Update my boat slots fully and have now too much material left with no use.

sometimes I get rammed, material goes overboard ... not sure if I have to sink myself to get back to the last save or if there is more than enough material for all upgrades, missions, etc. on the map?

IF dredge spots randomly respawn I could empty more metal dredge spot and throw it back into the, hoping a wood dredge spot will spawn.

But IF dredge spots do NOT respawn, then I better dont empty new metal dredge spots and throw the metal back, and better keep everything I have?

yeah, material seems to be infinite. I've enhanced my boat with all the slots avaiable, now I have a lot of material left. I guess I can give that back to the sea.

After your boat is maxed, you can sell extra materials to the trader near the research station.

just the odd motor seems not to be for sale.

the only problem I have now is that I cant unlock the abysal/hadal fishing rod. though I unlocked all the other rods it stays bleached out. I guess it must get unlocked story-wise ...

You don't have to ram your ship. Just quit game in the middle of the ocean and re-start. It will take you back to the last save at the last dock you pulled away from.

You can also turn spare materials into crates for the Iron Rig.

The Iron Rig DLC adds a nice bunch of stuff for long-term play. Good few hours there. Very nice. Worth the wait.
