DREDGE

Difficulty settings?
I have dredge on switch, not steam (not yet at least). I found it very fun and I wasn’t bothered too much from creatures /enemies. My GF on the other hand has a constantly attacked and struggling with enemies, like we are in two different difficulties, but the game doesn’t have different settings (other than passive) on switch. Anyone on here have issues with it sometimes being ridiculously hard? Seems like it should be fairly consistent.

Example, I can be out without sleep for like 3 days, be in the middle of the night with full panic and not have much going on. She can be well slept, go like 1 hour into night and just get attacked by every panic creature there is.

I’ve tried to go as crazy as possible and have issues and I still have less encounters than her in the day.

yeah I keep having hard issues with the game monsters camping key items and what not. I was not able o continue the game due to its repetitive killing,

When you see the eye opening it means your character is becoming paranoid. the more paranoid they are , the more they are attacked. have her make her character sleep until the eye goes away.

its a double edged condition as being paranoid is needed for some shrines to work.

Sorry to sound like a d*ck, but no sh*t Sherlock. As I stated, here being well slept. She gets hit by stuff during the day more than I do too.

Like once or twice and it’s like okay, maybe it’s a coincidence, but I have like 30+ hours in the game and she has probably 15-20, and it’s been like this the whole time.

It seems like there shouldn’t be that much inconsistency between play throughs.

That is basically the whole game is the monsters camping the quest item, where you have to have a big enough boat or the right item (banish, the machine, etc) in order to do that section. On the basics it’s kind of “boring” that way but I try to concentrate on the story, I also grinder and got upgrades WAYY to early so I was less worried about taking damage

If you go to the menu, you should find a "passive-mode"-option somewhere. If enabled, the monsters will stop attacking you.

does it happen to you if you play her game? or specifically if you played on her version of drudge. do you both have the same version? as in you have the base version and she has one with lots of dlc?

I haven’t played her game but we have the same game, same dlc, same console, just different games/profiles.

Like her playing with her account on my console. Only difference would be that my switch is not her primary switch in her account.

We don’t want passive, it’s just weird that it’s incredibly inconsistent between games

Here is something that might be increasing the difficulty:

Occasionally while out at night, the headlights will "burn out" and have to be turned back on manually.

If you dont turn the lights back on, you accumulate panic at a much faster rate.

It happened to me a few times were I forgot to turn the lights back on and I got attacked much more often. Also don't neglect upgrading lights to the highest you can get them.

What books have you completed? Some of them raise your paranoia resistance stat in the game, making sleep an option. Also, the larger your light radius, the harder it is to get paranoid, I believe.

Too add context, this has been since we both started the game, and we are both end game now. I think I have one more book than her currently. It doesn’t matter the lights, at one point she was way ahead of me in shop upgrades, books, lights, etc. this also seems to be just in general, not just during panick. For example, the creature at gale cliffs, I have only been attacked by twice and have only seen like 3-4 times in 30+ hours of gameplay and finish story and dlcs. Her first time at gale cliffs she got attacked within 5 seconds of going in every time. It’s like it spawned more for here.

I understand that gale cliffs creature is on a set movement around and can be avoided (from what I’ve seen online) and once or twice is one thing but consistently and it becomes an issue. (Same issue with the narwhal or the big fish as devils spine) it’s beyond just being unlucky.

And again, I know the controls, the lore, the gameplay, the mechanics. I’m not expert but no beginner, as already stated, just wondering if other people have noticed dramatic differences in difficult with playthroughs? It seems it should be FAIRLY consistent

As previously stated

it doesn’t matter if I’m out without sleep or light for 3 nights in a row. I could be not slept, in the middle of the night, in an oil spill, with my light off and still not run into as many things as she does.
