Dave the Diver????
What is the free Dave the Diver DLC ? Is this legit? A Dredge tie-in ? Any ideas?

It's strictly for the Dave the Diver game, not Dredge. I'm not sure of the details, but I think it adds the Travelling Merchant and Aberrant fish to Dave the Diver. The Dredge devs have said on Discord that they are strictly working on the Iron Rig DLC for Dredge for now.

I own both games.

Yes.

I had to look up Dave the Diver when reading this, and see it's sold in a bundle with Dredge, so apparently a coop / friendship thing between them?

Game looked interesting, so it ended up on my wishlist :lunar2019smilingpig:

Dave the Diver is something I highly recommend. As always, check into it first because not every game is fun for every person. But it is a quality made game with a load of charm, and I think very fun with something new around the corner for many hours.

yeah, there's not a lot of crossover really and what there is is all on the Dave the Diver side as of now, but think it's just a case of two studios having mutual respect for each other, their games and said games having some overlap thematically. It's nice and the kind of thing you don't often see so I welcome it even though I don't think the Dredge dlc for Dave the Diver adds a ton, but it IS the kind of thing that you'd love if you love both games

Very long fetch quest with quick-time-events and questionable game design in some aspects.
Just to offer a different opinion.

THANKS to all who answered here. I was hoping a DEV would answer as well, but not yet. I'm considering Dave the Diver, because a little more of Dredge-like play appeals to me. In Dredge, I just have to get the Colossal Squid Aberration to gain the last possible global achievement. I'm looking forward to more DLCs.

I've nearly 100% both Dave and Dredge. The Dredge experience in the Dave the Diver DLC is essentially hunting Aberrant fish to supply to hooded figures who arrive at your sushi restaurant. Any extras you catch, you sell to the traveling merchant from Dredge who comes around on foggy nights. That's about it. No bosses or anything added, but a fun collection of Aberrant fish, including some particularly nasty ones that show you what they'd really be capable of if you got in the water with them.

An example would be the Aberrant Devil Ray, which creates a noxious cloud of confusion-triggering toxins that can make Dave swim in random directions. Very panic inducing when you're low on ammo and it's between you and the surface. It's a small free DLC, but fun none the less. There's also a miniature version of the Dredge boat/dredging for items mechanic put on top, just for fun.

SOLD !! LOLOL
It sounds like fun and a bit of more Dredgy play to get me through until the next DLC.

Thanks for this reply. ""Extra helpful" award worthy.

So I tried Dave the Diver and ....meh ... I dunno. I got a refund and found a good book to read.

Dave the Diver has gotten great reviews, but looking at those dreadful pixel graphics just hurts my eyes. I don't need state of the art graphics. I really like the graphics for DREDGE, and they are hardly state of the art, but you can tell that the devs put work into them, and they look nice. But pixel graphics (or when a FPS game brags about having "retro" graphics) I look at that and think "I might as well go buy an Atari 2600 at somebody's garage sale and play that".:slimehungry:

My thoughts exactly. "Retro" is used a lot to describe things that would have been good decades ago. Fine, but this is now.
