Lost Gulper Eel when attacked my Madness Shark

Yeah, so i had finally found the Gulper Eel was as excited to finally finish that side mission when i was caught by the red mist while sorting my inventory. i went mad and the shark thiink attacked me, damaged my boat and the gulper eel was lost. In my panik i went back to the travelling merchant to save me, not knowing that that would save the game. Now i read that the gulper eel only spawns once and i now cannot complete the side quest with the rotting gulper eel. Is there any way to spawn a new gulper eel in or are there perhaps older save files accessible somewhere by any chance? I'd hate to have to play everything again just to get the achievement for all side quests.

Traveling merchant rare fish quest?

Iirc you only need to tell her where you catch it but doesn’t require you hand it over?

Correct. The only thing you "miss" out of that is not being able to sell it and get that line of text in your encyclopedia for its value.

the travelling merchant quest is still done because you only need to tell her where you caught it.

i was actually getting at the side quest at gale islands where you have to deliver a rotting eel for. i was mistaken and thought i had to deliver the gulper eel but it is a different one.
