DREDGE

Not even out and with a dlc with game content, such a shame.
Why would you guys release game content as dlc even before the game comes out? That's literally the worst move you could do, this is how you get people to hate you and don't buy your game, i could understand this coming from a greedy AAA but you guys? Really? You should reaaally recapacitate about this if you want bigger sales.

I can assure you that you will not miss out on any game content if you don't purchase the Blackstone Key DLC, just a couple of items that give you a bit more flexibility in your boat loadout. Sorry for the frustration.

I think, at this point, that publishers are just a necessary evil in the gaming industry. They'll help with localization, marketing, and so on, but many of them have these bad practices.

At least there aren't in-game purchases and loot boxes.

If it didn't increase profits, they wouldn't keep doing it, so we can safely assume that most people don't mind, unfortunately.

I was pretty excited about this game after having played the demo, but now I'll have to consider if I should wait for a sale instead.
Meh, the demo was really good so I don't mind tossing a few extra quid at the game to get the DLC and other stuff like the soundtrack. Like the previous person said, at least it's not a microtransaction hellhole.

I explain poorly sorry >< What I mean is a Standard Edition player still has access to various engines and rods so there's nothing in-game that Deluxe players will do or experience that Standard Ed players cannot, you just wouldn't be able to equip these two specific items but there's a lot of equipment that you will outgrow in game, or choose not to use because it doesn't maximise cargo space, or the number of fish you can catch etc. Hope I haven't just confused things even more!

Not a fan of day 1 content DLC. Will wait for a sale.

Much better to have DLC than to force people to buy all the content at a single price.

Skipping this for now, this just pisses me off too much.

Having a soundtrack and artbook available as additional ways to support a game that people love is well and good, they're clearly optional to enjoying the full breadth of the game as it exists as launch.

In-game content locked behind a paywall at release, however, will give players the impression that they aren't experiencing the full game unless they pony up more cash. Wouldn't matter if it were included in a deluxe DLC or not, that content is better off not existing.

Its the sort of thing that erases most of the goodwill that interesting indie-style games would attract because it's the kind of thing that big scummy publishers would do, the kind of activity that pushes players out of that AAAA space to begin with, so not the kind of thing a lot of players want to get involved with.

tl;dr Team 17 made a really foolish choice on this release, this will cost a lot of sales.

For me personally, it's off my wish list. There's way too many games to play now and not the time or energy or health for all of them, so it's easy for me to say the game just no longer exists. A really cool demo that never came out.

In-game content locked behind a paywall at release is pretty annoying, yes. But 90% of the time it's useless stuff that doesn't impact the gameplay at all. I don't prepurchase or buy dlc/season passes out of principle... but I also understand these things aren't black-and-white. And for me, I don't actually like a starting advantage in games - so I'm not particularly worried about "missing out".

Honestly, I'm really looking forward to Dredge! I'll check out some videos and read some stuff on release, then probably buy it within a day or two. Or not, we'll see.

This cooled my hype too, and I think I'd feel the same even if it had been a deluxe edition instead of dlc. Plus, unless I'm misunderstanding the store page, there's also a bonus for pre-ordering? I'd argue in a game where customizing your boat is a part of the gameplay, losing flexibility is in fact "missing out".

There are plenty of other interesting-looking games out there that don't do this (more than I'll ever have time to play as it is), so this has ultimately gone on the wait-and-see list for me, as well.

isnt DREDGE a single player game. Player A has standard edition, OMG player B has Deluxe Edition and has 2 items - SP games dont have competition so why worry bout 2 freaking items. Gamers of the now are weird AF. crying over $2 on 2 items that will most likely only be used in the beginning stages of the game to give a slight edge till you can upgrade parts. i think just for the sakes of the criers I'm buying 4 random buddies the deluxe version just cuz i can and have a job to do it. Thank you dev's

It's really easy, this maybe wont change anything in game, but encourages to publishers to keep this kind of actions and when you least expect it you got 5 dlc with in game content that changes everything.

This is literally like saying nintendo has good sales politics.

Man, you still didn't buy the "BRAIN" dlc yet.

As said by some, I also don’t see a problem with something that at this point has to be considered as a standard for the market.

To be honest if you scroll a bit here on steam you will find a load of games with day one DLCs and funny enough many of these games offer as DLCs only cosmetic items, that IMHO are even less worth than actual items you can use in the game.

I actually think the only problem was choosing DLC as name for it, deluxe edition would have been more appropriate, because in the end that’s what is more likely, since it gives you a small advantage at the beginning of the game.

All in all I’m still not sure on what version to buy, I’ll decide later today because I’m definitely going to preorder.

But I would like to give a BIG THANK YOU to the devs for their honesty about this matter. Really appreciated!

That said, I gotta go sort out my nets and fishing hooks, I’m going to sail away on just a couple of days. Beg your pardon.

Day one dlc is a crappy practice and I dislike it as much as the next person. That all said if as gamers we are going to make a stand on it, I suggest we do it against a non-indie developer.
Holding an indie developer to high standards than rather big beasts of the gaming industry is not fair, unless people are willing to do it to something like starfield then we should shut up when an indie developer does this.
