Feel like there's not much point to encrusted talisman

I have to choose not to equip one of the two other major equipment types just to have a faster catch. I guess it's a choice some people might make but catching fish is already pretty quick. Felt like an odd late-game reward.

I started using it when I only had Oceanic and Coastal fish to catch, so I had the slots available for the Talisman and the only thing I was doing was filling out the Encyclopedia.

Once you don't want a trawling net anymore there is no reason not to use it. You can cover all fish types with the remaining slots and enjoy the massive speed boost.

Depends when you get it, I didn't follow the on-rails quest order and hit up the volcanic area right after getting access to the two very deep fishing equipment.

Only time I used nets was to get a catfish because I had exhausted and sold them prior to meeting the veteran and of course the jellyfish.

All above, fair points. I'm on my second-play now and are approaching the islands in a different order. Might try something new.

I mean, it has it's uses, but I ultimately didn't bother using it all that much. There is such a thing as being too efficient apparently. Found it cost me a couple of trophy fishies because it was a bit too fast so if the fish has one of the mini-games where you need to hit a green marker to switch bars to reach the golden marker, you can still end up reeling the fish in before you even get that chance (like some of the eels).

Topic adjacent but I didn't get this Talisman.. I got the flame and a research token, a couple of refined metal but no encrusted talisman... is there two shrines? or did I F something up? I put the fish that corresponded with the image in the inventory slots.. was I supposed to ignore that?

Edit: Nvm Found it... Different shrine. I was on the wrong side.

There is four shrines in total. Look at this guide for all locations.

Thanks.. I found it... That guide says Devil's Spine is a WIP though. There is another shrine there that is story related I think and I was mistaking it for the Rock Slab shrine.

I believe it increases the chance of catching aberrations which you get paid more than double for.

I can confirm this from my own data mining. It gives +2% chance for aberrant fish.

Other special rods also give a bonus chance. Full stats are here:
