Load a previous save?

So I miss clicked and kept the dog, which would be fine until I suddenly realize that I could lose the dog if my hull was damaged and the dog goes overboard.... Is there any ways I can go back a couple saves so i can give the dog away?

Unfortunately, the game only keeps a single save (unless you backed it up.)

Put him into your Storage and he will be fine. Pet him whenever you go back to shore. Think of it as him guarding your shed.
