Mortar barrel?

How do I get the mortar barrel?
I’ve been to the supposed location and there’s nothing to dredge..

I've had a similar issue, I think caused by entering the plane and getting the tags before begining the questions for it. Not sure of a fix but extremely frustrating

I don't think its finding it too early - I found the barrel and all the tags before I found the guy who gives the quest. So, at least in my experience it didn't glitch.

Any insight to this? I'm currently trying to find the barrel and all I find is Dog Tags...

Nope! But I also just found the barrel. Just inside the entrance by the merchant to the right, so it wasn't at the "northern" part of the island. Just incase anyone else is confused, based on Northern and Southern parts of the island doesn't mean the very tip, just that half of the "island."

He marks around where he thinks they are, not exactly where, and with multiple crashes, it's pretty easy to think you have the right plane.

I’m fairly sure you dredge this item, it’s not in the plane. I found it before I met the guy and had no issues. It was right outside the air place where it’s marked on the map.

Hi, same thing happened to me. I had already explore the area before finding out this quest.
So i already had got the mortar barrel + the frame. I had put them both in my storage thinking it was furniture to sell. Completely forgot them while i was searching the area trying hopelessly to find them...
Anyway, check your storage guys, just as me, you may have let the pieces of the mortar there.

Okay so I think I worked this out - If you're struggling to find the barrel - Speak to the airman and ask him "What am I supposed to be doing" Once you do this he will say " I have marked this on your map to check out" go to that location and dredge the glowing marker.

Hopefully this helps some of you.

So I talked to the airman to ask him what I’m supposed to do; he marked his position on the map.. i still need to find the barrel and help him assemble the mortar. I think what happened is I lost it (barrel) while damaging my hull, soft locking in the pursuit of a now lost barrel.

Same here, the airman marked his own position on the map. I don't remember loosing any item to damaged hull, I don't have it in the storage. Also I searched the islands quite well, he already told me I've found all the tags.
I take it back, I do have it in the storage. Facepalm.

I have the same issue, except with the Mortar Frame instead. I have checked and re-checked my storage, but it's not there.
I even remember having dredged it out of the water, because I thought it looked curious. I think I thought it just was some trinket and I discarded it (leaving it in the "discard" pile and closing) because I had my deck full!
