DREDGE

End Game Research Parts?
I noticed that the only way to get a few of the oceanic fish is to use a net. But the only way to get an oceanic net is to completely unlock all of the net research.

I have already completed the storyline and was putting my research parts into engines mostly. I see that there is a way to get infinite research parts by visiting pontoons but the rarity of them being available for sale, even doing the quit and reload process, makes gathering all the research needed a taunting chore at best.

Any other recommendations?

I've hit the same issue. I'm not seeing Research Parts from Dredge pools any more. Every 2 in game days, the Trader should restock a Research Part for sale.

It's not great, but if you're going for 100% I would just pop in every 2 days while fishing for the remaining fish.

I think I answered my own question now. At Steel Point (just north of the Marrows) every time you quit and reload the dredging spots for cloth, wood, and metal respawn. Dredging them over and over seems to provide the best rate of hitting research parts.

Hmm... I haven't seen that to be the case. Tried just sleeping for two days and it didnt get restocked.

Also it seems like the dredging approach starts to taper off and become less successful in terms of randomly hitting the research parts.

The Steelpoint dredging is a great tip! It really does seem like those give a lot of Research points. Definitely better than just advancing time waiting for the Trader. It doesn't seem to be 2 days consistently.

I was done with fully upgrading the ship relatively soon so I stopped dredging. Grabbed the occasional Research Part from the trader but eventually noticed progression slowing down on the unlocks. So I started dredging again, just revisiting spots with a lot of dredge and clearing spots I came across, and combined with the Trader I had everything unlocked rather quickly. Completely without cheese like sleep-spamming or save reloading.

The best method I've found that works (for me) is below:
  1. Go to any dock except Marrows
  2. Check for research parts
  3. If there is one there, buy it
  4. If there isn't any there then go to Menu > Save and Quit
  5. Press continue
  6. Repeat from step 2
I was able to get 30 parts in about 40 mins.

Interesting, I've continued Dredging but I'm just not getting the Research Parts from it.

Another thing about dredging that I think seems like is happening, but cant be sure:

My guess is that the fewer times you change lanes while dredging increases the chances that you will get a research part. Based on doing it over and over and over at Steel Point it seemed like it was hitting more often at times where the dredging allowed me to stay in just a few lanes.

And I also had a dredge on some wood come up such that I never had to change lanes at all. (was just a solid wheel on the outside with no breaks) and that hit a research point as well.
